An increasing number of cars are opting for glass sunroofs as an aesthetic element and practical benefit; such as natural lighting and ventilation; however, their use comes with some drawbacks which should be carefully considered.

One of the major drawbacks to installing glass sunroofs in vehicles is an increase in heat inside. Sunroofs may trap sunlight and produce uncomfortable interior temperatures during hot days, requiring constant use of air conditioning - thus decreasing fuel efficiency. Glass roofs absorb more heat than solid roofs do, leading to uncomfortable temperatures in warm weather which require additional cooling measures, ultimately decreasing fuel efficiency.

Sunlight coming through a sunroof can produce an intense glare for drivers and passengers, severely diminishing visibility and driving safety. Unfortunately, many sunroofs provide only limited protection during peak sun hours through retractable shades which may not provide enough coverage.

Wind noise at high speeds can disrupt a peaceful driving experience and adds significantly to noise levels in certain vehicles.
